Depression Question: How Does It Feel?

This is a blog where Depression meets Film. But before Depression met Film, first it shook hands with the filmmaker, actually, still shaking it – the hand and the filmmaker. Why does this filmmaker want to share with everybody her experience of the everlasting handshake?

Because Depression is just like that evil spirit in a fairy tale – it only has power when it doesn’t have a name. Once you call it’s name, it withers and shrivels up.

I turn the lights on and I call it out:

– Look everybody, here’s the 6 legged spirit that eats my Soul away when I am not looking. Take a note. Even if it combs it’s hair to make itself cute, don’t let it close to yourself. It has sharp teeth and bottomless greed.

We are starting series of videos where in each video one question is asked about personal Depression experience. You can submit a question and I’ll answer it. You can submit yourself for questioning and I’ll ask you a question (although, you’d have to be in NY area for that as we’d have to film you).

Here is our first “Depression Question”. It might be long, but in 10 minutes it pretty much covers everything you need to know about certain aspects of Depression. Those 10 minutes will save you 3 days of reading 12 books on the subject.

Please, ask your Depression Question or submit yourself for questioning in the comments below. Thank you!

It is very generous of you to share these thoughts about the experience of depression — you describe it perfectly. I would like to know how you stay on task with your film when these episodes strike. Thanks, Signe!

First of all, sorry for my awful english.
I wanted to hug you for the entire video.
The way you talked of those kind of things was really moving. It was sad, but honest.
You’ve got a talent. You can talk about dreadful feelings in a magical way. You can be harsh and gentle in the same time.
How can someone be of some help when those things happens?

Your honesty is inspiring! How do you manage to be so prolific and generous despite it all?
